04.14.2022 First Grade Feet Washing
by Rebecca Bello
In service to their students & symbolizing Jesus washing his disciples’ feet, Ms Dail & Mrs Ciro washed the feet of each of their First Grade students, one-by-one—praying over, with, & for each child while doing so.
Why did Jesus wash feet at the Last Supper? The disciples sat around a table that was basically floor height. They reclined at the table & they had been wearing sandals on the dusty roads of Israel. So their dirty feet were near the food & each other. Normally, a servant would wash the feet of those dining. But Jesus took it upon himself to do this for each one. Even Peter, who would deny him. Even Judas, who would betray him.
And in this way, our first graders got to experience first-hand what it is like to be cared for in such a manner.
“Even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Matthew 20:28
At Immanuel, extraordinary things happen on ordinary days.
